Today’s Passage: John 1:1-2
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. — John 1:1-2
When I think of Christmas, I think of the birth of Jesus, born of a virgin in a manger. In my human mind, that is the moment in time when Jesus began to exist. But look at verse 2, “He was in the beginning with God” (emphasis added). The very beginning of time! Something my human mind cannot even imagine. Jesus has always been and He always will be!
This verse also makes it very clear that He is God! Jesus wasn’t just some man that did good things. He is God Himself in the flesh, walking on this earth, breathing this air, talking with people, and having dinner with friends. Paul writes that Jesus “emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:7-8).
God, the one who created literally everything, the one who hung the stars, the one who gives the first breath to a newborn baby, the one who tells the waves how far to go, He has always been. Always. He has been forever and at the perfect time, He sent Jesus to earth for me and for you. It is so awesome to know that Jesus lived and breathed on this earth just like you and I do. It is even more awesome to know that He loves each of us so much that He came to the earth just to die and save us. We don’t deserve it, but He loves us so—so much that he is willing to do anything for us!
Prayer
Thank You, God, for sending Your son, for loving us, and being with us always. In Jesus’s name, amen.
